Final Album Art

So if any of you follow my blog, you've seen that I've been working on album art for a friend. Well, the final work is finally finished. Here it is-

The Serpent and the Eagle

Working on beat boards for my independent study with Chong Lee. There'll be more later. At this point I'm really struggling to do all the work I need to. To survive, i have to work on the weekends, and I'm left with almost no time to work on assignments. Finishing this and the other two is done at the cost of missing character design. But at this point, I need to prioritize whatever is more relevant to story, and a story portfolio. Enjoy!

Album Stuff

So I fixed up that album art I was doing for a friend, and created a back image. He may not actually use it because it deviated too much from the original design, but I still like it alot.

First Assignment of the Year

I did this assignment twice. I was happy with the first one, and then I saw Dylan's awesome masterpiece, and decided to redo mine. Hope you like it!

So, as a way to show growth, I redid my first layout assignment from this year. I'll upload my first one later, but for now, here's the new version.

Lorettafest

Every summer, Our Lady of Loretto would have there summer carnival to raise money for the church. Lots of fond memories. Would love to use it as a setting in my film.

Still exploring film ideas. May sketch out another drawing tonight. Enjoy!

It's ON

Putting together some portfolio stuff on the fly. Trying to make a piece a day to supplement what I have. This is kind of a film idea.

Felt I Oughta Post

Hopefully I'll post some better things soon, but I've been working on album art for a friend. Its just a sketch. If we go ahead and use it, the final art would be hand painted, or done with cutouts or something to make it more tactile.

Here it is, for what it's worth-

EDIT: The film is being cropped weird, so just go to the youtube page to watch it.

Times running out. I've been working alot lately, on a pretty regular scedule. This isn't perfect, but I'm at that point where I can spend too much time fiddling with things. If theres time at the end I'll fix this.

More Film Stuff!

How the fuck am I going to finish this??? I don't know... But I'm not worried yet. And, for the first time, I'm starting to feel good about this project. Here's another shot. its not perfect yet... I'm still deciding a bunch of shit, but whatever. Feedback is appreciated!

EDIT- I fixed the shot. Got the character and background and everything working in a way I'm happy with!

Film Time

Film time has begun! I'm way behind schedule. But here's a scene from the film. It's set near 33rd and Halstead by my friends old apartment. Hopefully I got the look and feel of a southside Chicago street right.

EDIT- Here's an interior scene, including a character. I still don't know if I like the look of the character in relation to the backgrounds, but its too late to be indecisive. This is what I'm rolling with.

Uhhhhhh....

I was working on my film... and took a break. I don't know what this is supposed to be. I think it looks cool... but its utterly useless, unproductive, and souless. It captures nothing about life or human experience. Gah.

Photoscoping

So, I'm still trying to hammer out my story, but I think the final film will look something like this. I just used photoshop to steal colors from a photograph. I'd do this for the final film too- go shoot reference photography and use it to create my color swatches. To save time I'm going to use alot of video reference for the animation as well. Maybe its cheating... but I don't mind. I'll use whatever tools necessary to make the film look finished and better communicate the story (which is really where my career goals lie anyway). So I'll cheat to make it look good. Actually, thinking about it now, this style kind of supports the story. The story is taken from my life. So why not take the colors from life too? Hahaha, who knows. No one even reads this anyway.
